Some unknown gunmen kidnapped a groom, Moses Yakubu, his bride, best man and two other family members at Akunnu-Akoko in Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo state.

According to INDEPENDENT, the victims were said to be coming from Okene, kogi state, to Akure for the engagement slated for today when their car was seized at a gunpoint.

Sources said the bride and her younger sister were later freed while the groom and two others were taken away by the kidnappers.

Ahmed Amodu, father of the bride, confirmed the incident, saying the bride and her younger sister had been released but his son and two others taken away.

Spokesman of the state police command, Femi Joseph, also confirmed the abduction and said policemen had been drafted to the scene of the incident to rescue the victims.

Joseph said the command would do everything possible to put an end to incessant kidnappings in the Akoko area of the state which shares boundaries with Kogi and Edo states.

The PPRO disclosed that the new State Commissioner of Police, Gbenga Adeyanju, had been meeting top officers of the command on the best way to address the issue.

The Akoko area is notorious for kidnappings as some passengers traveling on Owo-Ikare-Akoko road were abducted about two weeks ago.
